From 18 cars to 70 in stock

How stock funding and better buying data let a small forecourt grow its holding without tying up its own cash.

The challenge

  • Working capital, not demand, was the limit on how many vehicles could be held.
  • Buying decisions were made on experience rather than market data.
  • Slow stock tied up cash that could not then be used to buy well.

What we did

  • Put a stock funding facility in place so purchases did not consume own cash.
  • Used Auto Trader market, retail and trade values on every prospective purchase.
  • Tracked days-to-sell in Composer to identify what was actually working.

The outcome

  • Stock holding grew substantially without a corresponding cash requirement.
  • Buying became evidence-led, which shortened average days to sell.
  • Figures for this case study are being confirmed with the dealer and will be published once approved.
